Elaine Bernstein Partnow is an author and public speaker especially noted for her living history portrayals of notable women and for the nationally acclaimed book The Quotable Woman, The First 5,000 Years (5th edition, 2001: Facts On File, NY). A collection of more than 19,000 quotations from all over the world from over 3,750 women: in print since 1978, Elaine has just been contracted for a sixth edition (2010). Her many books include the forthcoming The Complete Idiot's Guide to Your True Age (September 2008). She's also written The Quotable Jewish Woman, The Female Dramatist, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Great Quotes for Any Occasion and Everyday Speaking for all Occasions, among others.
Elaine has brought some of her dozens of portrayals of fabulous women to tens of thousands of women, men and children internationally. She has taught acting at all levels, including challenged children, and directed teenagers in several stage plays. She has written, produced and acted in her own one-woman show, Hear Us Roar, A Woman's Connection. She has a screenplay and two novels under her belt and hopes to see them sold soon.
Included in several editions of Contemporary Authors, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in Entertainment, Partnow is the on-line columnist of "Women of Wisdom" for the award-winning web site, www.feminist.com.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, she left for New York when she was twenty and has since lived in New Orleans, Seattle, and, currently, on Live Oak Island off Florida's north Gulf coast with her husband and two dogs. When she's not writing she does volunteer work as an educational interpreter for two park systems, mentors at the schools, and, with her rat terrier, Deva, makes pet therapy visitations.
